January 17, 1967 — A big fourth quarter allows Jim Thorpe to rally for a 55-52 Anthracite League victory over host Freeland MMI. The Olympians, coached by Phil Rader, trail by 12 points at one time and by seven entering the final frame but outscore their opponent by a 22-12 margin in the last period to earn the win. Clem McGinley’s puback with 23 seconds left in the contest gives Thorpe its first lead of the second half. Jerry Huggler hits two free throws with 10 seconds to secure the decision. Dennis Balliet scores a game-high 24 points for the Olympians, who also received 10 points from both McGinley and Mike Tessitore.
