Monroe honors retiring tax collectors

During their meeting on Jan. 7, the Monroe County commissioners presented certificates to three women retiring from their service as tax collectors. A fourth woman also is retiring from her work as a tax collector, but she was not present for the meeting.

Those present for the meeting were Judy Linder, Barrett Township tax collector; Alberta Tallada, East Stroudsburg tax collector; and Sharon Gerberich, Smithfield Township tax collector. Patricia Michael, Pocono Township tax collector, was absent.

“These ladies happen to be the backbones of providing monetary funding,” commissioner Chairman John Christy said.

“On behalf of the Assessment Office, I just want to thank you,” said Deb Storman, chief assessor. “I have worked with Alberta, Sharon, Pat and Judy for probably 25 plus years, depending on how long they’ve been in business, so I want to thank them. It’s a tough job. It’s really, really hard.

“Nobody does it better than you guys. We will miss you terribly, but you have all earned your retirement and I will miss you personally because I have dealt with each and every one of you and I love you all.”
