In other action, the Palmerton girls clinched a district playoff berth while the Lehighton boys pushed their winning streak to four.

Panther Valley’s Brenda Banks also captured first place at a tournament in Souderton.

Bangor-Northern Lehigh

Northern Lehigh’s Tegan Simms reached 1,000 career points as the Bulldogs crushed Bangor, 48-22, in Colonial League action.

Simms entered the contest needing nine points to reach the scoring milestone and did it in the first quarter as Nolehi raced to an 11-0 start.

The Bulldog junior finished with a game-high 28 points, including five three-pointers.

Palmerton clinched a district playoff berth by rolling to a 44-14 Colonial League victory over visiting Pen Argyl.

The Blue Bombers secured their postseason spot by clinching at least a .500 mark in the league.

Hailey Barry scored a game-high 16 points for the winners, who limited the Knights to five or fewer points in each quarter.

Emma Rex added 14 points, while Leah Remfield chipped in with nine.

Lehighton rallied from a first-half deficit, and the Indians went on to slip by Southern Lehigh, 46-42, in Colonial League action.

Cole Dietz scored a game-high 14 points for the Tribe, who have won four straight. Lehighton, which also received 10 points from Blake Roberts, trailed by eight at the break before rallying over the final two frames.

For the Spartans, Joseph Plessel tallied a team-high 11 points.

Catasauqua jumped out to a double-digit halftime lead, and the Rough Riders rode it to a 60-35 Colonial League victory over visiting Jim Thorpe.

Frankie Pujols and Hamaad Jenkins each had 10 points for Catasauqua, which held a 13-point advantage at the break.

The Olympians were led by Pierre Gothard, who finished with a game-high 12 points.

Pen Argyl took control with a big first half and maintained the lead en route to a 62-45 Colonial League victory over visiting Pen Argyl.

Kaen Kaiser scored 16 of his game-high 21 points in the opening two quarters as the Green Knights raced to a 16-point advantage.

The winners also received 14 points from Mason Soos.

Kurt Jedrejczyk, Jared Grammes and Gaige McGowan all finished with 10 points for the Blue Bombers.

Jason Marcantonis had a game-high 20 points for Bangor, who extended a narrow four-point halftime lead to 17 with its big third frame.

The Bulldogs received a team-high 11 points from Parker Schaffer. Nolehi starter and leading scorer this season, Kellen Bauer, left the game in the first quarter with a head cut and didn’t return.

GIRLS WRESTLING

Big Red Invitational

Panther Valley’s Brenda Banks captured the individual title at 235 pounds at the Souderton Big Red Invitational.

Banks received a forfeit win in the quarterfinals before posting a 21-second pin in the semifinals. In the championship round, the PV wrestler earned a fall in 1:45 over Strath Haven’s Kindal Bizzell-Brown to gain her title.

The Panthers’ Alisa Williams also reached the final round at 170, but fell by a 10-1 score to Bryce Snyder of Palisades in the championship match. Williams, who finished second, had three earlier pins to advance to the title bout.

PV’s Amelia Spino finished 3-2 at 118

Palmerton also participated in the tourney, which featured 40 schools.

The Bombers’ Sofia Amorim (106) and Alexxa Winger (130) both went 3-2 with three pins, while Makenzi Smith (112), Lea Schaible (136) and Kyleigh Jennings (170) also finished with 3-2 marks.

BOYS WRESTLING

Mid-Winter Mayhem

Northwestern’s Luke Fugazzotto finished second at the Mid-Winter Mayhem, held at IUP.

Fugazzotto reached the finals with a 10-3 win in the 189-pound semifinals, but then dropped a 7-1 decision to Michael Spielman of Strath Haven in the championship bout.

Vinnie Fugazzotto ended in seventh place at 172. The Tiger wrestler earned a pin in 1:24 over Northampton’s Carter Chlebove in the seventh-place bout. Teammate Weston Killar finished in eighth, falling by a narrow 2-1 score in the seventh-place match.

A total of 57 schools competed at the two-day tourney.
