Walnutport advertises for officer
Walnutport has advertised for another full-time officer to bring it back to full capacity.
Borough council on Monday accepted the resignation of full-time police officer Luis Garcia due to accepting employment at a different department, effective Dec. 31, 2025.
Afterward, council agreed to advertise for a full-time police officer.
Additionally, borough council agreed to make Aung “Alex” Tha’s official hire date Dec. 10, 2025, the date of his graduation date from the police academy.
Both Garcia and Tha were hired as full-time officers by borough council in April, and started at an annual salary of $53,414 for 2025, according to then-Sgt. Jason Nothstein, then officer-in-charge.
After that meeting, Nothstein, who in May was promoted to police chief, noted the last time the department had five full-time officers was back in 2001.
Applicants must be 21 years of age or older to apply, must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, high school diploma or equivalent, and before appointment, must have successfully completed an Act 120 Academy and be capable of Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission certification.
As part of the Civil Service process, candidates are required to pass a written test, oral interview and thorough background check. Competitive wage and benefit package offered.
Applications may be obtained at the Walnutport Police Department, 417 S. Lincoln Ave., between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday or call for an alternative time.
The written test will be administered at 9 a.m. on Feb. 14, at the Diamond Fire Company, 209 Washington St.
Last month, borough council unanimously agreed to hire Paul Minnicks as a part-time officer at the rate of $29 per hour.
Currently the department has four full-time officers and three part-time officers.
