Lehighton swept Northern Lehigh in a Colonial League doubleheader on Friday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lehighton-Northern Lehigh

After a long layoff, Lehighton started the new year with a bang, rolling to a 73-48 Colonial League victory over host Northern Lehigh.

The Indians hadn’t played in 10 days, but jumped out to a 13-point first-quarter lead thanks to eight points from Cole Dietz and six from both Blake Roberts and Caden Meek.

Roberts finished with a game-high 26 points, which included four three-pointers, while Dietz was close behind with 24.

For the Bulldogs, Kellen Bauer hit for a team-high 21 points. Colin Karetsky added nine.

Blue Mountain-Tamaqua

Blue Mountain got off to a fast start and coasted to a 60-30 Schuylkill League victory over host Tamaqua.

Tyeirre Meade scored a game-high 18 points for the Eagles, who raced to a 23-10 first-quarter lead and extended the advantage to 24 points by halftime.

Cohen Werner added 12 points to the winning effort, while the Blue Raiders received a team-high 13 points from Terrence McDowell.

BLUE MOUNTAIN

North Schuylkill-Palmerton

A strong second half by North Schuylkill allowed the Spartans to earn a 56-44 non-league win over host Palmerton.

Jude Maziekas scored 11 of his game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter for North Schuylkill, who trailed after the first quarter and were tied with the Bombers at halftime.

Julian Nelson added 13 points for the winners, while Palmerton’s Gaige McGowan hit for a team-high 13. The hosts also received 11 from Tate Buck.

Lehighton improved to a perfect 10-0 after pulling away from Northern Lehigh late to capture a 48-31 Colonial League victory.

The Indians led by just six points entering the fourth quarter. Olivia Serfass scored six of her nine points in the final period, as Lehighton used a 17-6 frame outscored the hosts 17-6 to secure the decision.

Brielle Parliman poured in a game-high 15 points for the winners. Leah Uyvari added 11 points to the Indian cause.

For NL, Tegan Simms connected for a team-high 14 points.

Marian used a late rally to pull out a 47-39 non-league victory over visiting Schuylkill Haven.

The Fillies trailed by five points entering the final frame, but used a 21-8 period to gain the win. Free throw shooting was key as Marian hit all eight of its foul shots in the quarter, including six by Addy Marek.

Marek finished with a game-high 19 points, while DeAnna Pugh added 12 and Haley Minzola chipped in with eight.

For the Hurricanes, Audrey Hutchinson scored a team-high 13 points.

Rylan Reitz posted a 55-second pin at 127 pounds for the Blue Raiders, while teammate Francis Hill added a fall in 1:21 at 145.
