Nesquehoning reports tampered wiring at park

A Christmas event earlier this month revealed someone had tampered with wiring in a Nesquehoning park.

During last week’s council meeting, Councilman Paul Kattner reported that an unknown Grinch tried to steal the holiday cheer ahead of the Christmas on the Hill event, taking their life into their own hands by playing with live wires.

“We had a bit of a tampering event in New Columbus Park on a new pole installed last year,” he said. “It seems somebody decided to open up the pole and perhaps hack the wiring.”

The issue was discovered because of the Christmas event preparations.

The electrician that installed the wiring on the pole was called and looked at the person’s handiwork.

“He said there is no way that that was work he would have ever done,” Kattner said, adding that the electrician properly fixed it.

Because of the person’s actions, the wires in that pole shorted out.

Officials said that while this is an issue that someone decided to do this, it could have been worse if they actually electrocuted themselves.

“Whoever went into there really took their life into their own hands,” borough worker Bob Pilla said.

Council asked police to patrol past borough parks more often to deter any such incidents from happening in the future.
