Man injured, loses shed in Mahoning fire

A man suffered injuries after his shed was destroyed by a fire Monday afternoon in Mahoning Township.

Mahoning Valley Fire Chief Mark Ebbert said firefighters were dispatched at 12:50 p.m. to the 800 block of Jamestown Drive for a shed that was burning.

Ebbert said it was a secluded area, and that upon arrival firefighters found that the shed had already burned down.

He said firefighters had the situation under control within 15 to 20 minutes.

However, Ebbert said the homeowner was injured in the incident.

“The homeowner did suffer some injuries,” Ebbert said. “He was trying to move some equipment away from the shed and he attempted to put it out with a fire extinguisher.”

As a result, he said the homeowner received burns to his face, and had trouble breathing due to smoke inhalation.

Ebbert said the cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.

He said firefighters remained on the scene for more than an hour.

Also assisting at the scene were the Mahoning Valley Ambulance, Lehighton Ambulance and Mahoning Township Police Department.
