Woman faces DUI counts in multivehicle crash
A Bethlehem woman has been charged with causing a multivehicle crash in Lehigh Township that left one driver with severe injuries.
Sgt. Jonathan Roth of the Lehigh Township Police Department filed charges on Dec. 11 stemming from the crash, which occurred about 6:30 p.m. Sept. 7 on Route 145 near Willow Road.
According to court records, Lehigh Township police were dispatched to the scene at 7:59 p.m. After the roadway was cleared, officers went to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg to interview those involved.
Dash camera footage showed Lipkin driving a 2021 Hyundai SUV erratically for several miles before the crash.
The video captured Lipkin making an illegal left turn from a McDonald’s in Walnutport onto Main Street, then merging onto Route 145 southbound.
The footage showed Lipkin crossing the center yellow lines, driving on the shoulder, tailgating another vehicle, and weaving back and forth.
At one point, she appeared to take both hands off the steering wheel and place them on her head while yelling.
Near Riverview Drive, Lipkin crossed into the northbound lane and struck a white Subaru Impreza.
That collision caused her vehicle to hit a white Toyota Prius, then veer into a 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander traveling northbound.
One woman involved in the crash suffered major injuries and was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg.
Her injuries included a fractured femur, multiple pelvic fractures, spinal and head injuries, internal bleeding and kidney damage.
Medical records indicate she will require additional treatment from trauma, orthopedic, neurosurgery and plastic surgery specialists.
Lipkin was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg for treatment, and blood draws were taken.
On Sept. 10, police interviewed Lipkin, who admitted to having a beer early in the morning.
As soon as Lipkin stated she had a beer, an older woman that was there said “stop talking” twice, and Lipkin stated she wanted to talk to her attorney.
Police said they would stop talking at that point, and Lipkin, without prompting, stated, “You know I am on drugs right now like fentanyl.”
Medical records obtained by police indicate Lipkin removed a neck brace and pulled out her IV before receiving pain medication.
A toxicology report following results from testing Lipkin’s medical blood indicated ethanol, Delta-9 Carboxy THC, Delta-9 THC, Benzoylecgonine and cocaine.
Lipkin faces six counts of DUI involving controlled substances, along with aggravated assault by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, reckless driving, careless driving, following too closely, unsafe passenger behavior, and driving at an unsafe speed.
According to online court papers, Lipkin was arraigned on Dec. 12 and jailed in Northampton County Prison lieu of $50,000 bail, which she subsequently posted.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 30 before District Judge Robert A. Hawke.
