Lehighton girls basketball team visits nursing center

The holiday season was made brighter for residents of Mahoning Post Acute Nursing & Rehabilitation thanks to a thoughtful gesture from the Lehighton girls basketball team.

The team gathered to handwrite Christmas cards filled with warm wishes and festive messages, which were then distributed to residents at the facility. Each card included a team photo, allowing residents to put faces to the heartfelt words and share in the joy of the season.

Coach and players said the project was about more than basketball — it was about giving back to the community and spreading kindness during the holidays.

“We wanted to do something special to let the residents know they’re thought of and appreciated,” Olivia Serfass said. “It’s important to us to bring smiles both on and off the court.”

Staff at Mahoning Post Acute Nursing & Rehabilitation expressed gratitude for the gesture, noting how much the residents enjoyed receiving the cards and photo. For many, the personal touch brought a sense of connection and joy during the festive season.

The initiative highlights the team’s commitment to community service and demonstrates the positive impact young athletes can have beyond athletics.
