Schuylkill Co. holds lines on taxes

Schuylkill County’s first post-reassessment spending plan and it does not call for a tax increase.

Wednesday morning, the commissioners unanimously approved a $78,256,688 budget that calls for a real estate tax millage of 3.729 mills, 3.613 mills on the general fund account, which is 36.13 cents on each $100 of assessed valuation, and .116 mills for the 2026 funded debt account, which is 1.16 cent on each $100 of assessed valuation.

“No tax increase is not the easiest thing to do after a reassessment,” said Commissioner Gary Hess.

The commissioners established the 2026 per capita tax at $5

The $78,256,688 budget is made up of $72,475,380 in revenues from real estate taxes and supplemented by approximately $5,781,308 from the general fund unassigned fund balance.

Commissioner Chairman Larry Padora said, “There is still $20-21 million” left in the unassigned fund balance.

The budget also has $2,441,946 in debt service, and an internal service fund of $475,000.
