West Penn Township wants to enhance the visibility of house numbers for safety purposes.
Supervisors discussed the ordinance for display of house numbers for emergencies at Tuesday morning’s meeting.
Board Chairman Tony Prudenti said that many of the home addresses aren’t as identifiable as they should be.
“They don’t have the placard that they should,” Prudenti said. “I believe that this saves lives.”
Prudenti then stated that he would like to reinstate that program if the fire company is willing to take that on.
Township solicitor Paul J. Datte said his recommendation is that they should do white letters on a green background.
It was then suggested to contact the fire department.
The township has an ordinance that requires all residential and commercial properties to prominently display identification numbers that mark the location of the residents and businesses for fire, police, ambulance and other personnel involved in providing emergency services.
