Local Roundup: Results from Dec. 16

Northwestern earned victories in boys and girls basketball and wrestling Tuesday, while Lehighton and Northern Lehigh also picked up wins in boys and girls wrestling action in a strong night for area teams.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jim Thorpe-Palmerton

Pierce Gothard scored 12 of his game-high 18 points from the foul line to help Jim Thorpe slip past Palmerton, 44-41.

As a team, the Olympians shot 18-for-27 from the free-throw line. Cole Lazorick added 12 points, and Ethan Moore followed with 10.

Jared Grammes led Palmerton with nine points as the Bombers dropped their fourth straight game.

Northwestern pulled away with a 41-point second half and remained unbeaten with a 66-41 Colonial League victory over Moravian Academy.

The Tigers placed four players in double figures, led by Brady Krimmel, who scored 10 of his 16 points after halftime. Mason Bollinger, Cameron Fitch and Malachi Coleman each added 12 points.

Trevor King scored 11 points for Moravian Academy, which dropped its seventh straight.

In between, Jaxon Bower (172), Conner Arrigo (189) and Dawson Newhard (215) all joined in on collecting bonus points for the victors.

Shaylee Gormley and Kate Behun also recorded multiple first-place finishes.

Thomas Graham, Brandon Temarantz and Audrey Nattres each had wins for the Raiders in the boys meet.
