Four area boys teams gained wins on Saturday.

Northwestern, Jim Thorpe, Northern Lehigh and Marian all picked up weekend wins, while the Lehighton girls remained undefeated by downing Salisbury.

In wrestling action, Brenda Banks of Panther Valley earned first at the Escape the Rock tournament.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Northwestern-Catasauqua

Northwestern stormed out to a huge halftime lead, and the Tigers roared to a 67-45 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

The winners, who received a game-high 19 points from Mason Bollinger, raced to a 22-point advantage after the first two quarters.

Brady Krimmel added 11 points for Northwestern, while the Rough Riders received a team-high 18 points from Hamaad Jenkins.

Jim Thorpe-Palisades

Brody Schrantz and Pierce Gothard helped Jim Thorpe gain a 51-40 Colonial League victory over visiting Palisades.

Schrantz and Gothard combined for 32 points for the Olympians, who held a 26-15 halftime lead and held on for the win.

Schrantz topped all scorers with 17 points, while Gothard added 15. Cole Lazorick also finished with 10

Jack Trickel paced the Pirates with 13 points.

Marian erupted for 31 third-quarter points to help the Colts pull away for 61-42 non-league victory over visiting Salem Christian.

Greg Tirpak, who had 18 of Marian’s 24 first-half points, finished with 20 in the game and also grabbed seven rebounds. Jake Tom chipped in with 11 points.

For the Eagles, Aidan Schultz scored a team-high 10 points.

Coy Daubert drilled six pointers on his way to a game-high 18 points to help Northern Lehigh pummel Pen Argyl, 63-36, in Colonial League play.

Kellen Bauer added 16 points for the Bulldogs, who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Chayce LoPinto chipped in with eight points for the winners, while the Knights were led by Kaen Kaiser’s eight.

Steven Lozada fueled the Falcons with 19 points, while Julian Makoul had 18 and Drew Petrie added 16.

The Indians received a team-high 18 points from Cole Dietz, while Julian Fairchild had nine of his 15 points — all on three pointers — in the final quarter in which Lehighton scored 20 points.

Lehighton remained undefeated by holding off previously undefeated Salisbury, 41-37, in Colonial League play.

Ryleigh Trotman scored a team-high 15 points for the Indians, who held a 10-point halftime lead.

The winners also received 12 points from Olivia Serfass, while Kendra Morgan had a game-high 16 points for the Falcons.

Northern Lehigh-Pen Argyl

Gianna Martini scored eight of her 13 points in the fourth quarter to help host Pen Argyl pull out a 41-33 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Leah Apostol also tallied 12 points for the Green Knights, who held the Bulldogs to just eight points in the first half and outscored their opponent 17-6 at the foul line.

For Northern Lehigh, Jaylene Ramos scored a team-high 12 points while Ella Tosh added 11.

BOYS WRESTLING

Blue Raider Duals

Lehighton posted a 5-1 record at the Blue Raider Duals in Tamaqua, while the host team failed to pick up a win.

The Indians posted victories over Berwick (66-7), Columbia-Montour VT (53-14), Hanover Area (50-18), Tamaqua (66-12) and Mahanoy Area (53-23) but fell to Central Dauphin (54-14).

Elijah Guy (107), Chase Lobasso (114), Evan Wentz (160), Asher Traylor (215) and Marc Macias (285) all posted 5-1 marks for the Tribe.

For the Raiders, Dylan Reitz finished 4-2 at 121 with three pins.

Emmaus won the team title with a perfect 6-0 mark.

Carlisle Tournament

Palmerton failed to gain any medalists at the Carlisle Classic.

The Bombers received a 3-2 effort from Anderson Garcia, who registered a tech fall, a major decision and a decision at 215.

GIRLS WRESTLING

Escape the Rock Tourney

Panther Valley’s Brenda Banks, at 235 pounds, captured an individual title at the Escape the Rock tournament in Lansdale.

The Panthers also received a third-place performance from Alisa Williams at 170, while Anelia Bennick ended the tourney with an eight-place finish.

PV finished 12th in the team standings. Fellow District 11 member Parkland took first overall.

Queen of the Hive Tourney

Northern Lehigh traveled to Honesdale to compete in the Queen of the Hive Tournament.

The Bulldogs finished in 17th place, while Hughesville came away with the overall team title.

Mackeenah Mosser (100) and Emiko Lucas (190) turned in sixth-place efforts for Nolehi.
