Lewistown Garden Club
Lewistown Valley Garden Club recently held its November meeting. Members enjoyed crafting a Christmas tree of their choice. The arrangements made by members and submitted for judging included Evelyn Adams, first place; Pat Wishousky, second place; and Norene Rosso, third place.
Shrubs with berries or blooms included Norene Rosso, first place with Purple Berry; Barb Scott, second place with Bittersweet; and Sue Hower, third place with Burning Bush.
The annual Christmas Social will be held at noon Dec. 16 at Zion Church social hall, Lewistown Valley. Please note earlier time. Arrangements to be judged will be a Christmas theme using white and outside accessory. The specimen will be winter greens.
In lieu of a gift exchange and in the spirit of the season, $10 will be collected from each member and donated to a local food pantry as agreed. Dues are also due at this meeting. Each member is to bring a wrapped gift for game prizes as well as a refreshment as previously determined.

Tamaqua Seniors
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on Dec. 4 with 22 members present.
President Jean Machamer opened the meeting with the invocation, “The Heart of Christmas.”
Two members were added to the sick list. Refreshments were served. One member is celebrating a birthday. The secretary gave each member a candy cane for Christmas.
The meeting closed and bingo was played. The seniors will exchange gifts at the meeting scheduled for today. Each member will receive a gift for Christmas, and a brown bag lunch will be held.
The group meets at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Coaldale Complex.
St. Peter’s — West Penn
The 9 a.m. Sunday worship service at St. Peter’s Church in West Penn will have Pastor Joshua Nemeth delivering a trial sermon. There will be a Joyous Noise offering. Adult Sunday school is at 10:15 a.m. A Blue Christmas service will be held at 2 p.m.
On Dec. 18, the Cherub and Bell choirs rehearse at 6 p.m., and the Senior Choir rehearses at 7 p.m.
Calvary Lewistown
The 11 a.m. Sunday service at Calvary Evangelical Church in Lewistown will have the annual program celebrating Christmas produced by the Sunday school. At 3 p.m. Sunday, there will be a Community Choir Christmas concert followed by free refreshments.
There will be no evening services during the month of December except the 6:30 p.m. Dec. 21 candlelight service.
At 4 p.m. Dec. 20, folks are invited to meet at the church to join for Christmas caroling in the community. Refreshments will follow.
Zion Lewistown
Pastor Jim Williams will officiate the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Zion Church in Lewistown Valley. Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m.
