The organization session of the Penn Northeast Conference of the United Church of Christ was held today in Zion United Church of Christ, Lehighton.

The congregation of Zion Church and Jacob’s UCC, Weissport, served as hosts to the delegates and pastors of the newly organized conference.

More than 300 delegates and pastors attended. The conference is in line with the movement of the Evangelical and Reformed churches and Congregational Christian churches uniting as the United Church of Christ, starting in June of 1957.

The new Penn Northeast Conference is comprised of the Pennsylvania Conference of the Congregational Christian churches, East Pennsylvania Synod, Lehigh Synod and the Susquehanna Synod. It includes about 215 congregations.
