Veteran director Dennis McGinley was unanimously chosen as the new president of the Jim Thorpe Area School District board during the district’s annual reorganization meeting Wednesday night.
Mary Figura, the 2025 board president, was elected vice president moments later.
Four members elected in November, two of them new to the board, were sworn in before the officer elections.
Incumbents McGinley and Gerald Strubinger were welcomed back to the board while Megan Demshick and Sierra Fogel will join as newcomers.
McGinley, Strubinger and Demshick were on November’s ballot, while Fogel received 135 write-in votes to claim the fourth and final available seat.
Jim Thorpe approved its 2026 meeting schedule, which will continue on the same pattern as this year. Committee meetings will be on the second Wednesday at 6 p.m. when needed, with regular board meetings on the third Wednesday at 7 p.m.
“The first meeting would be Dec. 10 … since no action is taken at the reorganization meeting,” Superintendent Robert Presley said.
In the only other appointment Wednesday, Christopher Fischi will serve as Jim Thorpe’s alternate on the Carbon Career & Technical Institute Joint Operating Committee.
