Joseph L. Boyle of Jim Thorpe was appointed secretary of the Carbon County Recreation Authority during a meeting yesterday in the county courthouse in Jim Thorpe.

Boyle will assume the duties previously held by Henry J. Fitzpatrick, who resigned the post. He had served the authority since its organization in 1963

Dr. Albert H. Vermillion of Summit Hill chaired the session, during which time a report was presented by Mrs. Agnes McCartney, authority coordinator and executive director of the Carbon County Office of Planning and Development, detailing land acquisition proceedings at the site of the Mauch Chunk Watershed project.

She reported the authority is working with the Soil Conservation District to conserve lane in the dame area of the Bloomingdale Valley as the proposed $1.2-million multi-purpose dam construction moves forward.
