A Pennsylvania State Police Troop N Major Case Team, Hazleton, was summoned to the Freeland area Tuesday morning after an 18-year-old man was shot and killed and a 15-year-old boy was shot in the leg, receiving non-life-threatening injuries.

Police at the Hazleton barracks were called to the scene at approximately 2:30 a.m. when troopers were notified of several gunshot victims who were being transported to a local medical facility.

Police said through their investigation it was determined that a shooting took place outside of a business within Freeland Borough.

They said the 18-year-old was pronounced dead at a local medical facility.

The major case team is handling the investigation in conjunction with the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office.

Police said the incident appears to be isolated, and no immediate threat exists to the public.
