Historian to present Switchback Railroad talk

Local historian and author Vince Hydro will present a talk and visual presentation: “The Last Days of the Summit Hill and Mauch Chunk Switchback Railroad” at the Nesquehoning Historical Society Museum.

Presentations, sponsored by the Nesquehoning Historical Society, will be held at 6 p.m. Monday and 1 p.m. Saturday

The museum is at 157 West Railroad St., the corner of Ratcliff and Railroad streets, in Nesquehoning.

The event is open to the public free of charge, although donations to the historical society are always welcome.

The talk will include a visual PowerPoint presentation on the closure and demolition of the famous Summit Hill and Mauch Chunk Switchback.

Following the visual presentation, Hydro will be signing copies of his book: “The Switchback Railroad: America’s First Roller-Coaster.” Copies of his previous publications will also be available.
