2 face drug charges in smoke shop investigation
Two men are facing charges after investigators say illegal drugs were being sold out of a Pocono Summit smoke shop and convenience store.
Pocono Mountain Regional Police Chief Chris Wagner said officers searched the All in 1 Pocono Smoke Shop and Convenience Store on Route 940 on Sept. 2 as part of a narcotics investigation. Police say they found marijuana, THC products, drug paraphernalia and cash inside the business.
Shane Scarlett, 25, of Mount Pocono, was charged with possession with intent to deliver and related offenses. His bail was set at $250,000 and posted on Sept. 3.
The investigation continued this week. On Tuesday, police say they were watching a gray Chrysler Pacifica with New Jersey plates that was believed to be supplying the store with drugs.
.The driver, identified as Fareeq Ali, 31, of West Collingswood, New Jersey, went into the shop carrying a bag and stayed inside for some time, according to police.
When he left and drove off, officers pulled him over after he nearly caused a crash on Route 940.
Police say they found large amounts of marijuana in the vehicle. Ali was arrested and was carrying cash consistent with drug sales, according to the department.
Officers then returned to the smoke shop, where Scarlett was working. Police say they learned Ali had delivered marijuana to the business.
A second search warrant for the store led to the seizure of more bulk marijuana, dozens of THC vape cartridges and additional cash.
Ali’s bail was set at $75,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 9 before District Judge Danielle Travagline in Coolbaugh Township.
The investigation is continuing, and more charges are expected.
