The dedication of the new Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Philadelphia took place yesterday during a Mass officiated by the Most. Rev. Thomas J. Welsh, Bishop of Allentown.
Principal concelebrants were the Rev. Robert J. Potts, pastor, and the Rev. James Collery, chaplain of the Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville. Msgr. Aloysius was the master of ceremonies.
The new $700,000 church is constructed of brick and glass. Stained glass and other furnishings will be removed from the old church building and will be installed in the new church.
As the program proceeded, Joan M. Wassel served as commentator, guiding the parish members through a once-in-a-lifetime service that culminated some five years on the part of the parish that made the new church a reality.
