Arrests made in Brodheadsville gas station burglary

The Pennsylvania State Police have made arrests in both cases of burglary at Bright Star Fuel on Route 209 in Brodheadsville.

The gas station and convenience store was burglarized on Sept. 22 when a man broke the lock on the front door and entered the store, then proceeded to break into a safe. About $5,000 was taken from the safe.

Then on Nov. 9, a different man stole some packs of cigarettes and lottery tickets when the store clerk was not behind the checkout counter.

Trooper Anthony Petroski III, the public information officer for the state police in Hazleton, said Wednesday afternoon that arrests have been made in both burglaries. He clarified that since the items were not taken from a person, but instead from a building, the theft is considered a burglary, not a robbery.

Jagjit Chahal, the owner of Bright Star Fuel, said he had not heard that arrests were made when he was contacted for comment.

“I’m happy at least they got them,” Chahal said. “This is a good thing. It’s a relief.”

No further information was immediately available about the arrests.
