Carbon Commissioners
Carbon County Commissioners acted on or discussed the following items during their bimonthly meeting recently.
• Awarded the demolition contract for clearing 151-151 1/2 Ridge St., Lansford to Northeast Industrial Services of Shamokin. The company bid $68,724.50 for the project, which will use Community Development Grant funds.
• Reappointed Paul Smith of Lehighton to a five-year term on the airport authority.
• Reappointed Scott Hosier of Palmerton to a four-year term as a farmer director and Merle B. Hunsicker of Lehighton to a four-year term as a public director, both on the conservation district board.
• Appointed Michael J. Sofranko as the commissioner representative to the conservation district board. This is a one-year term.
• Reappointed Dwight Eisenhower and Dennis DeMara, both of Lehighton and Martin Kane of Lake Harmony to four-year terms on the county planning commission.
• Approved the transfer of $13,000 in treatment court donations to o the Carbon County Treatment and Recovery Foundation, a nonprofit set up to represent the donations of funds that remain unspent by the drug treatment court.
• Approved the repair of a Hobart dishwasher at the correctional facility at a cost of $2,582.23. Hobart Services will complete the work.
• Approved a public service billboard on Route 209 in Packerton at a cost of $6,000 from November through October 2026. The billboard would be part of the opioid settlement funds actions on prevention and education.
• Approved cost reimbursement agreements between the Pocono Counties Workforce Development Board and Monroe County for the Employment, Advancement and Retention Network in the amount of $54,398.44.
• Approved cost reimbursement agreements between the Pocono Counties Workforce Development Board and the Workforce Alliance of Honesdale for TANF program services, $48,441.38; WIOA Title I Adult and Dislocated Workers programs, $647,831.82; and WIOA Title I Youth Activities, $320,234.60.
• Approved a quote from Paramount Abstract Inc. of Jim Thorpe for lien searches for the 2025 upset tax sale overbids. There are a total of 42 searches at a cost of $85 per search.
• Approved a quote from Paramount Abstract Inc. of Jim Thorpe for lien searches for the 2026 judicial sale at a cost of $185 per search. There are 57 searches.
