Lansford Borough Council

Lansford Borough Council acted on the following items during its meeting last week.

• Approved providing two reserved parking spaces for the Panther Family Pharmacy at the current rate, but denied a request for the business to place signs on borough property advertising its opening.

• Approved renewing Certificates of Deposit, or CDs, for the railroad, sewer and pool funds for nine months at a rate of 3.55%.

• Approved a resolution on who is allowed on the borough’s bank account signature cards. These include the council president, borough treasurer and secretary, and if needed council vice president or other appointed member of council.

• Tabled having Portnoff Law file writs of execution for delinquent real estate taxes and trash fees. Council will consider alternatives.

• Approved joining the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance, an organization that provides technical and grant assistance to local municipalities, at a cost of $295.

• Approved applying for a statewide Local Share Account, or gaming, grant in the amount of $102,114.51 to purchase a skid loader and attachments. Councilman George Gilbert objected, saying only two councilmen had the specifications.

• Approved an additional $2,500 in improvements to the borough garage to include hot water heater, electric baseboard, drywall, insulation and a partition wall. Work will be done by borough crew.

• Advertised for a new member of the zoning hearing board.

• Approved seeking requests for proposals for legal services for the planning commission.

• Approved the credit card platform Dejavoo at a cost of $104.85 a month for three borough accounts. There is no additional costs and the move will save the borough $3,000 a year.

• Approved advertising for part-time snowplow drivers without a CDL at $20 an hour.

• Approved selling the borough’s asphalt zipper with a minimum bid of $35,000 on a 4-3 vote with Markovich, and Councilwomen Gwyneth Collevechio and Michele Bartek opposed.

• Approved the East Front Street sewer line replacement by Joe Hutta at cost of $19,000 under review and approval by the borough engineer. Councilman Joe Butrie confirmed that two other local contractors were not available, and others suggested they do not take such small jobs.

• Withdrew a motion to reinstate part-time borough worker, Dennis Anderson.

• Approved seeking quotes for appraisals of the three parcels that comprise the borough-owned Silberline complex.

• Discussed charging Construction Clerance the business $1,000 for parking of trailers The business, which rents a building at the Silberline complex, had until Oct. 31 to remove all the trailers from the property, and did remove some, but not all.

• Tabled installing inlets at the east end of the pool parking lot.

• Approved that any vote with three no votes go to an automatic roll call vote, and the council president votes last.
