Dear Editor,
In a recent article on the Tamaqua school curriculum, it was sad to see that the board president conflated democratic socialism with Marxist-Leninist communism and even criticized the students for their ignorance, calling their beliefs “nitwit ideas.”
Perhaps those students actually learned their history and are able to make distinctions between the ideas of supporters of democracy like Olof Palme and Eugene Debs vs. leaders like Joseph Stalin and Mao Zedong. There really is a clear distinction.
