November 17, 1956 — Gary Simons scores a touchdown on both offense and defense to help Lehighton end its season with a 20-7 victory over neighboring Jim Thorpe. The Indians, coached by Charlie Gernerd, march 74 yards for the game’s first score — which comes early in the second quarter. Jake Jacoby caps the long drive with a 1-yard plunge into the end zone. Later in the frame, the winners extend their lead. A 43-yard reception by Bob Hofford sets up a 9-yard TD run by Simons. Simons then seals the contest when he intercepts a pass and races 92 yards for his team’s final tally. Thorpe avoids a shutout on Conrad Bincarosky’s 10-yard scoring pass to Tommy Ackerman.
