West Penn Township supervisor Glenn Hummel reminded folks about the upcoming Wreaths for America event at the Sky-View Memorial Park.
“It’s sponsored by a national program,” Hummel said during the supervisors’ recent meeting. “And on that day, they go to sponsored cemeteries. They do a fundraiser to provide a wreath for every veteran.”
Wreaths Across America Day will be held on Dec. 13, and at that time, volunteers and others will place wreaths that are purchased by the public. Hundreds of people typically turn out to help, and the goal is to honor every veteran with a wreath.
“The only one that does it in the area here is Sky-View in Hometown,” said Hummel, who’s a volunteer for the event. “They have 3,900 veterans.”
The event has been held annually for five years at the Rush Township cemetery.
Hummel said that folks can purchase a wreath for a specific grave or a grave for any veteran. Hummel handles grave-specific requests.
