ON THIS DATE NOVEMBER 4, 1980

The sound of majestic music reverberated once again Saturday throughout the cavernous building in Jim Thorpe which for many years served the functions of a warehouse.

Shades of 1881, when the Mauch Chunk Opera House was built, through the years that followed until 1962, when it ceased operations as a motion picture theatre to become a site for storage, came alive over the weekend as a center for entertainment and the development of cultural pursuits.

The opera house, formerly known as the Capitol Theatre, has now been returned to some semblance of its once great stature, thanks to the initiative of the Mauch Chunk Historical Society.
