The annual Tamaqua Hunger Walk stepped off Sunday to raise money for food pantries in the area.
Nearly 100 walkers took part in the event which raised $6,200 for the Tamaqua Community Hunger Campaign. The event marks the end of the monthlong fall campaign.
Last year’s campaign raised $18,000 and collected 125 bags and boxes of food which were distributed to Tamaqua’s four food pantries at American Primitive Methodist Church, Trinity United Church of Christ, Stokes Ministries and Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
This year’s totals will be announced within the next few weeks. Walk participants included church and civic groups, individuals, and a large number of Tamaqua Area High School students from the National Honor Society.
Other events included a soup sale and restaurant dining specials.
Donations are being accepted to Nov. 7 at Tamaqua Hunger Campaign 2025 or by mail at Tamaqua Hunger Campaign, 125 Pine St., Tamaqua, PA 18252
