Letter to the editor: Big Bucks in Tiny Hands

In violation of the Constitution, Trump has made at least $3.4 billion from the presidency so far, and it’s early. That is according to The New Yorker magazine’s exhaustive investigation.

Starting with merchandise, the campaign merch proceeds go back into the campaign and Trump can’t use that money for personal purposes. But Trump has his own online store and its merch looks just like his campaign’s but this money goes directly to Trump. For example, the Trump Bible, officially called the “God Bless the USA Bible” and made in China, is sold for $59.99 and a limited signature edition for $1,000. A MAGA coffee mug costs $38 and a red tie $110. A Trump pickleball paddle is $180. MAGA thinks this money goes to the campaign but it goes into Trump’s pocket.

Then there are the crypto enterprises. He started by selling NFTs (non-fungible tokens) which are digital cartoons of himself and they netted him $2 million. The official Trump Digital Trading Card collections brought in approximately $2.14 million. Then there is World Liberty Financial which sold online tokens to the tune of $550 million. Then he sold “stable coins” and the first customer was the United Arab Republic for $2 billion. Then came the “meme coin” which is a novelty token allowing buyers to say they gave money to Trump and it earned him $300 million. There’s Trump Mobile, where you can get yourself a MAGA phone covered in fake gold and an American flag that ties your cellular service to the Trump family. Then there’s Truth+ where you can stream Newsmax all day long and Truth. Fi: Trump Media’s new financial services division.

Trump has licensed his name, for a fee, to hotels, golf courses and other properties around the world including 5 properties in India. He himself valued his licensing at $3.3 billion.

Forget the Nobel Peace Prize. He more than qualifies for the Nobel Greed prize and greed is one of the deadly sins. So is pride, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and sloth.
