Jefferson Health, parent company on Lehigh Valley Health Network, announced Wednesday it is implementing targeted workforce reductions impacting approximately 1% of its total employees.
That represents 600 to 700 of 65,000 employees.
Joseph G. Cacchione, MD, Chief Executive Officer, Jefferson, released a statement saying the health system is facing financial struggles.
“Like many organizations in health care and higher education, we are facing significant financial headwinds. To sustain our mission and continue serving our communities, we must take thoughtful, strategic actions to align our operations for the future.” Cacchione said.
“While these decisions are never easy, they are necessary to ensure Jefferson remains strong and able to invest in expanding access to care, advancing innovation, and supporting those who rely on us most.”
LVHN has hospitals in Carbon, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe and Northampton counties.
It has not been announced what locations and departments are affected.
The LVHN and Jefferson merger was completed on Aug. 1, 2024.
