Tamaqua hires two officers

The Tamaqua Police Department gained two part-time officers.

On Tuesday, borough council approved hiring Trevor Flexer and Matthew Houser on a request by Tamaqua Police Chief Michael Hobbs.

“Both candidates bring a wealth of experience and professionalism that will greatly benefit our department,” Hobbs said in his request to council.

He noted that Flexer has more than 20 years of experience and works as a full-time officer in Palmerton.

Hobbs said Houser worked for the department previously, and also served in Coaldale and Lansford.

“His familiarity with our community and a proven track record make him a valuable asset,” Hobbs said.

Both were hired unanimously.

Council President Brian Connely asked Hobbs how the shared police services with Coaldale is working out.

Hobbs said that it is working out well, and officers are receiving positive feedback from Coaldale residents.

Tamaqua entered into a shared services agreement with Coaldale last month, and has three officers patrolling the community.

Also during the meeting, council approved a five-year lease agreement from Mauch Chunk Trust Company for a 2025 Ford police SUV.
