Second GoFundMe set up for fire victims

Another GoFundMe has been set up for a family who perished in a house fire last week in Franklin Township.

The Carbon County Coroner’s office identified the victims as Aida Marrero, 37; Kaylee Quevedo, 14; Nathaniel Wheelock, 1; Aiden Wheelock, 5; and Matthias Wheelock, 6.

Their deaths were ruled accidental.

The fundraiser was organized by Cristina Conklin of Lehighton for the Marrero Family Memorial.

“On Sept. 30, 2025, our family experienced an unimaginable tragedy,” Conklin said. “A devastating house fire claimed the lives of our beloved Aida Marrero and her four precious children, Kaylee, Mathias, Aiden & Nathaniel.

“In one heartbreaking night, five bright lights were taken far too soon, leaving our family and community shattered.”

“We are creating this fundraiser to honor their memory, and to help cover the many unexpected costs we now face, including funeral and memorial expenses. Losing an entire family is something we could never prepare for, emotionally or financially.”

Conklin said all proceeds will go to the Miller Funeral Home Inc. in Lehighton, which will be providing the cremation services. Anything left over will go to Aida’s mother, Mayra Brea, and husband, Matthew Wheelock, she said.

“So many people have already reached out asking how they can help,” Conklin said. “If you feel moved to contribute, any amount — large or small — will make a difference.

“Your support will go directly toward giving my sister Aida and her children the dignified farewell they deserve and easing the financial burden on our grieving family.”

Conklin urged anyone unable to donate to consider sharing the GoFundMe page “and keeping us in your prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”

A GoFundMe was previously set up for the father, Matthew Wheelock, who lost his four children and companion in the house fire. That fundraiser was organized by Nicole Wheelock of Tampa, Florida.

She said donations will help with clothing, housing and essentials, grief counseling and rebuilding what was lost.

“We are asking for the support of family, friends and the community to give whatever they can to help Matthew rebuild his life. No amount is too small. If you’re unable to donate, please share this campaign and keep Matthew and our family in your prayers.”

Wheelock said Matthew is currently in Tampa staying with his mother. As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, $10,064 of the $11,000 goal had been raised.

The residents on the other side of the duplex at 56 and 60 Willow St. escaped injury.

St. Peter’s Community Resource Center, 177 Main Road, Franklin Township, has offered to be a drop-off point for donations for the fire victims.

Items that are being accepted include tooth brushes, tooth paste, women’s medium shirts, women’s small pants, women’s shoe size 8, feminine hygiene products, disposable razors, blankets, dog food, cat litter, cat food, men’s XL shirt, men’s XL pants and men’s shoe size 10½.

Support night

P.J. Whelihan’s Pub and Restaurant in Lehighton will host a Community Support Night from 11:30 a.m. to 12 a.m. Friday.

“Earlier this week, a devastating house fire impacted one of our team members, leaving them without a home,” P.J. Whelihan’s Pub & Restaurant posted on its Facebook page. “While our hearts are heavy for the lives lost in the community, we want to rally together to support our teammate during this difficult time.”

P.J. Whelihan’s said it would donate 15% of all sales to help Brianna Smith as they begin to rebuild.

“We are grateful for the strength of this community, and we know that together we can make a difference. Thank you for showing up, supporting, and caring for one of our own.”

State police said that the Troop N Fire Marshal Unit determined there were no suspicious circumstances regarding the fire. The house was a total loss and will be demolished.
