Local roundup: Results from Oct. 4

The Panther Valley and Pleasant Valley volleyball teams each enjoyed successful weekends, with the Panthers posting multiple wins at their Dig Pink Tournament, and the Bears sweeping past Pocono Mountain West.

Elsewhere, the Northern Lehigh boys soccer and Tamaqua girls soccer teams also recorded victories.

VOLLEYBALL

Nativity, Mountain View at Panther Valley

Dig Pink Tournament

Panther Valley capped its Dig Pink Tournament with a sweep of Mountain View and Nativity.

The Panthers rolled past Nativity 25-6, 25-15, 25-17, then downed Mountain View 25-13, 25-7, 25-12.

Morgan Orsulak led the way with 36 kills, 14 assists, 13 service points, nine digs and four aces.

JaeLynn Browdy added 35 assists, 13 service points, 13 kills, four aces and four digs.

Caroline Breslin contributed 36 service points, eight kills, 15 digs and nine aces, while Jessica Hackash added 11 kills, six service points, four digs and two blocks.

In a tight match, Pleasant Valley pushed past Pocono Mountain West for its third straight victory.

Kira Hnat had 32 assists and 15 digs, and Rylee Ruggiero added 19 kills and 14 digs for the Bears.

Palisades erupted for four goals in the second half and went on to a 5-0 victory over Lehighton for its sixth straight win in Colonial League play.

CJ Strohl recorded 26 saves for the Indians, who dropped their 15th straight.

The win marked the 275th in the 27-year history of the Blue Raiders’ girls varsity program.

Shaylee Gormley led the way with two goals and an assist, while Evelyn Leinbach, Gabby Chistakoff and Katie Fredericks also scored.

Keeper Ceanna Gormley notched her fifth shutout of the season, recording 11 saves.
