JT woman charged after Mahoning home entered

A Jim Thorpe woman faces multiple charges after police say she entered a Mahoning Township man’s home thinking it was a gas station while she was high on methamphetamine.

Paige Able, 24, of Center Avenue, was arraigned on charges of criminal trespass, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and resisting arrest after the incident on Monday night.

She was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning in lieu of $7,500 bail.

According to court papers, Mahanoy Township police were dispatched to Country Club Road just before 8 p.m. for an intoxicated woman who entered a man’s home and was subsequently in her car in the home’s driveway.

Police saw Abel, who appeared to be heavily intoxicated, get out of the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the driveway.

When the officer asked what she was doing, she pointed to the gas cap while picking at things on the vehicle that didn’t exist, court papers said.

Abel told police that she was trying to get gas and was told that this wasn’t a gas station. She said OK, and began to leave.

The officer stopped her and told her she was being taken into custody. She asked why and refused to let go of the car door and would not cooperate with officers’ requests, court papers said.

The officer used force to take Abel to the ground but she continued to struggle and resist. She was placed in handcuffs and told to sit on the ground until backup arrived, court papers said.

Abel continued to try to get up and walk away multiple times, court papers said. Officers from Lehighton arrived, and Abel was taken to a patrol vehicle but refused to get inside.

Officers used a Taser to get Abel in the vehicle and she then complied, court papers said.

The resident told police that he was watching television when the sliding door opened and Abel walked inside the home. She said she was looking for gas and candy. The man told her to leave.

She returned to the vehicle and attempted to leave, almost hitting the man’s vehicle.

He yelled at her to stop, and she did. Abel stayed in the vehicle until she saw police arrive, the man told police.

Another man advised police that Abel was at his restaurant banging on the door, trying to get a drink. The business was not open, and she got back in her vehicle and had it sideways in the middle of Mahoning Drive before going to Country Club Road, court papers said.

Abel was taken to a hospital for medical treatment due to her condition. She was taken to a room, where she was restrained as she was still non-complaint and would not stay still or listen to staff, court papers said.

Abel denied doing any type of drugs, but then told a nurse that she had taken “meth” because someone told her to do so.
