Soup sale to benefit hunger campaign

Tamaqua’s Community Soup Sale opens at noon Monday when orders will be accepted online.

The sale is part of the month-long Tamaqua Community Hunger Campaign which benefits Tamaqua food pantries at American Primitive Methodist Church, Trinity United Church of Christ, Stokes Ministries and Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.

A link to the soup ordering page can be reached by searching “Tamaqua Hunger Campaign.” Orders will also be taken at the Tamaqua Heritage Day on Oct. 12.

The soups are being made by community churches, civic organizations and restaurants and include Chicken Noodle Soup, St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran; Turkey Rice Soup, St. John United Church of Christ; Ham & Bean Soup, Stokes Ministry, and Halupki Soup and Potato Bacon Soup, Zion Evangelical Lutheran.

Also, Sausage Tortellini, Business and Professional Women; Italian Wedding Soup, Trinity United Church of Christ; Chicken Quesadilla Soup and Cream of Mushroom, The Station Restaurant; Beef Vegetable Soup, Bethany Evangelical Congregational; Beef Noodle Soup, American Primitive Methodist and Potato Soup, St. John XXIII Catholic.

The soups will be distributed on Oct. 25 from St. John XXIII Catholic Church on Pine Street.

“It is always a wonderful event on soup distribution day,” says soup sale coordinator Judy Hoppes. “So many churches and organizations working together.”

Soup purchasers will also have the chance to win gift certificates to eateries participating in the Oct. 29 and 30 Dine Out Against Hunger Days. Participating eateries will be announced later in October.

The Tamaqua Community Hunger Campaign is a project of the Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network, a 501 3(c) organization of lay leaders from area churches working under the umbrella of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership.
