Trinity Happenings

First Saturday quiet worship with Holy Communion at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton begins at 4 p.m. Sunday worship with Holy Communion begins at 9:30 a.m. Licensed Lay Minister Kathy Long presides.

Blessing of the Animals in honor of St. Francis of Assisi takes place Sunday at noon on the lawn located between the church parking lot and the preschool. Rain location is inside Luther Hall. All are invited. Please have your pets leashed or crated and be prepared to clean up after your pet. Special items such as photos or ashes of deceased pets, medals, rings, crosses will be offered in prayer of remembrance in their name.

Sunday Church School for students ages 3 through grade 6 plus confirmation classes for those in grades 7-8 will begin at 10:45 a.m.

Church initiatives:

The Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesdays (and third Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m.) with an outdoor drive-up setting. Residents who reside in the Lehighton Area School District are eligible to receive supplemental food. Participants must remain in their vehicle at time of pick up. Pantry volunteers will assist pedestrians/those not in vehicles.

The Trinity Thrift Store hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesdays; and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays. Household goods and clothing donations will be accepted during store hours. There is a five bag limit. Use door 2 to bring clothing inside.

Looking ahead:

• Carbon County CROP Walk is Oct. 12, starting at 2 p.m., at 600 Riverview Road (West Bowmans). The walk will start at Riverview Park, East Penn Township, head south along the D&L Trail.

Walkers will have a choice of returning along the same loop or using connecting paths to complete a loop.

• October fundraiser at Trinity’s Jack and Jill Preschool will be a Dine & Donate from Alfies Pizza, Lehighton. Every Friday in October, order food from Alfies and be sure to mention Jack & Jill in order for the school to receive 10% of the orders. This include dine in, takeout and delivery

BECC

Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, 222 North St., Lehighton, will host Sunday Morning Worship at 10:45 a.m.

Sunday Morning Christian Education will be held at 9:30 a.m. for all ages.

Coffee and snack is held at 10:15 a.m.

• Tuesday: 7 p.m. prayer meeting.

• Thursday: Men’s Bible Study, 5 a.m.; Second Blessing Free Clothing Ministry, 6-7:30 p.m.

• Oct. 5: Special Communion service at 10:45 a.m.

• Oct. 19: The church will celebrate its 130th anniversary with a special service at 10:45 a.m. and a luncheon to follow. All are invited.

St. John’s

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mahoning, 826 Mahoning Dr. W., Lehighton will hold a worship service with Holy Communion at 10:45 a.m. Sunday in the sanctuary.

Fall bazaar: The annual fall bazaar will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. on Friday. There will be a bake sale, homemade food, basket raffle, fall decorations, candy, plants, raffle tickets, pans of filling.

Blessing of the animals: 1 p.m. Sunday.

Grief support: 6 p.m. Monday.

Fundraising committee: The next meeting of the committee will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 15.

Dinkey Memorial

Sunday worship at Dinkey Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1742 Dinkey Road, Lehighton, begins at 9 a.m.

Pastor Tony hosts Morning Prayer on Zoom, meeting ID 187 911 224 on Wednesday at 9 a.m. and Bible Study on Zoom, meeting ID 376 540 617 on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.

Fundraisers:

• Second annual Car and Motorcycle Show, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; rain date Oct. 11; trophies, raffles, kitchen is open for food sales. Donations are now being accepted for the event by calling the church office or Deb Koch at 484-425-1398.

• Carbon County CROP Walk, 2 p.m. Oct. 12 starting at Riverview Park.

• The church is creating a cookbook. There will be a sale of the book in the fall. More information to follow.

• Election Day spaghetti dinner, 4-7 p.m. Nov. 4.

Community Cupboard: Dinkey Memorial has a food cupboard available to those in need who are members of Dinkey Memorial and St. John’s or residents of East Penn Township. The distribution is the third Thursday of every month from 3:30-5 p.m. in Dinkey’s Social Room. For more information, speak with Pastor Tony.

175th anniversary: The 175th anniversary of Dinkey is in April. Planning has started on the celebration.

Ben Salem UCC

Ben Salem UCC, 1965 Church Hill Road, Lehighton, will hold worship services at 8 and 10:15 a.m. Sunday.

Sunday School, 9 a.m. It is held for children from nursery age to new post Confirmation class.

• Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., Senior Choir practice.

• Thursday at 6:30 p.m., Handbell Choir practice; 6-9 p.m. Men’s Bible study, open to men age 18 and up.

Fundraisers:

• Spaghetti dinner: 4-6:30 p.m. on Oct. 11.

• Blessing of the animals will be held at the 10:15 a.m. service on Oct. 12. There will only be one service that day.

• Homemade Christmas candy sale: Orders due Nov. 23. Pickup is Dec. 13.

• Homemade Christmas cookie sale: 9 a.m.-noon Dec. 13.

Christ Evangelical

Christ Evangelical Free Church, 2420 Blakeslee Blvd., Dr., West in Lehighton holds worship service beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday. Sunday School for children and youth is also held every Sunday except the first Sunday of the month at 10:30 a.m.

Upcoming event: Benefit car show, Oct. 4 from noon-5 p.m. Held in conjunction with Tamaqua Safer Streets organization.

Ministries during the week:

Sister Chix, a support group for widows and divorced women, is held the last Sunday of each month at noon. Bring a lunch, but dessert will be provided. To attend, call 570-386-4547. Enter through the lower parking lot entrance.

ESL classes are held at 6:30 p.m. every Monday. To register, call the church office. Enter through the upper parking lot.

Ladies’ Bible Study starting Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. for the Tuesday study and Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. for the Friday study. Study is called Giving God Your Future; a Women of Faith study. Lower parking lot entrance.

Men’s Bible workshop is the first and third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. Lower parking lot entrance.

Looking ahead: Christ Evangelical Free Church is hosting its annual fall harvest festival for kids ages 3 years old through 6th grade, on Oct. 22. The fair is held at 6:30 p.m. There will be lots of games and snacks, candy. The community is invited to attend.
