October 1, 1974 — Karen Daderko wins a pair of events to help Tamaqua’s swim team earn a decisive 120-48 victory over Hazleton. Daderko captures the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:33.5 and also touches first in the 100 backstroke in 1:21.5. The Blue Raiders’ Effie Depos takes a first in the 200-yard individual medley, setting a school record with a mark of 2:51.8. Other Tamaqua athletes to win their respective events include JoAnne Fern (50 freestyle), Lorie Shea (100 butterfly), Debbie Schrickram (100 freestyle), Judy Nortavage (500 freestyle), Shawn Williams (100 breastroke) and Margaret Heller (one-meter diving).
