Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 17
Overtime soccer wins by the Palmerton boys team and Lehighton girls team highlighted action around the area on Wednesday, along with a 3-0 sweep by the Tamaqua cross country teams. Some other area teams that picked up wins yesterday were Northern Lehigh girls soccer, Tamaqua boys soccer and Pleasant Valley’s field hockey and volleyball teams.
BOYS SOCCER
Wilson-Lehighton
Wilson kept up its winning ways in the Colonial League, as the Warriors blanked Lehighton for an 8-0 victory.
Braden Benevides and Logan Moore paced the Warriors, as both finished with two goals. Moore was also credited with an assist.
The Indians’ keeper CJ Strohl made nine saves.

Palmerton-Saucon Valley
Colton Ruzicka’s goal in overtime lifted Palmerton to a 2-1 Colonial League victory over Saucon Valley.
Ruzicka finished off a perfect set-up from Carter Huber in OT to help the Bombers earn their first league win of the season.
Logan Stroup put the Bombers on the scoreboard with a first-half goal, while Justin Sturdik was credited with the assist.

Tamaqua avenged a season-opening setback to Lourdes, as this time the Blue Raiders were on the other end of a 5-1 result as a victor this time.
Chase Behr paced the Blue Raiders with two goals and an assist, while Lusvin Lumas chipped in with two goals.
Teammate Aidan Elston added a goal and an assist.

Gillingham Charter
The Tamaqua cross country teams both went 3-0 at a meet in Pottsville.
The Blue Raider boys posted wins against Pottsville (15-45), Schuylkill Haven (23-32) and host Gillingham Charter (15-46), while the Lady Raiders earned victories over Pottsville (15-50), Schuylkill Haven (20-35) and Gillingham Charter (15-50).
Aidan Elston and Parker Steencken finished 1-2 in the boys meet, as the Blue Raider harriers crossed the finish line in 17:01 and 17:40, respectively.
The Lady Raiders grabbed the top spots as well in the girls’ meet, as Shaylee Gormley finished first in a time of 21:01. Meanwhile, Ava Jones followed shortly after in second in a time of 23:18.

Marian hosted a Schuylkill League meet against Blue Mountain, Minersville and Shenandoah Valley.
The Colts finished the meet with a 2-1 mark, which included wins over Minersville (18-36) and Shenandoah Valley (26-29). Meanwhile, the Fillies went 1-2 with a 27-28 win over the Battlin’ Miners.
Wade Eroh led the way for the Colts, as he scored a top-10 finish with a fifth-place finish.
Teaghan Biros and Anna Keer both ended up with top-10 finishes in the girls’ meet, as Biros and Keer finished in 8th and 10th place, respectively.

Pleasant Valley, Nazareth, Easton at Northampton
Pleasant Valley’s girls team ran against Easton, Nazareth, and host Northampton Tuesday. However, the Bears couldn’t keep pace with Easton (15-50), Nazareth (19-43), and Northampton (25-30).
Pleasant Valley’s boys had three harriers and didn’t have enough runners to score. Jacob Schuler was their top finisher, 51st in 24;30; Anthony Blas, 61st in 27:40; and Ethan Blum, 64th in 33:27.
Keeley Lawrence was Pleasant Valley’s top finisher, crossing the line 13th in 22:36, and Sara Baker was 33rd in 26:04.

The Weatherly cross country teams competed in a multi-team meet that included Schuylkill League foes Tri-Valley, Pine Grove, and North Schuylkill, along with Northern Lebanon.
The Wreckers’ boys earned victories over Tri-Valley and Pine Grove, but fell to North Schuylkill. Northern Lebanon runners — not part of the league standings — claimed the first four overall places. Weatherly’s Raymond Montz led the way for his team with a ninth-place finish in 20:18.
On the girls’ side, North Schuylkill’s Genevieve Dando set a new course record in 21:03, topping the old mark by 11 seconds. Weatherly’s Alexis Kehler paced the Wreckers with a fourth-place finish in 24:50.
