September 12, 2014 — Kevin Vitti’s blocked extra point midway through the fourth quarter proves to be the difference as Jim Thorpe hangs on for a 7-6 Anthracite League victory over Tamaqua. After the Blue Raiders score on a 5-yard fumble return by Colin “Bud” Moyer, they try to tie the score but Vitti jumps high and gets a hand on the point-after attempt. The Olympians’ only tally comes in the opening quarter on a 1-yard run by Rob Heller, with Bailey Becker adding the important PAT. Heller leads the Thorpe offense with 84 yards rushing on 17 carries.
