SS. Peter and Paul Schedule

SS. Peter and Paul Church, 260 N. Third St., Lehighton, announces its schedule:

• The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is offered on the Lord’s Day at 4 p.m. on Saturdays, at 7:45 and 10 a.m. on Sundays. Daily Masses are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and first Saturdays at 8 a.m. The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) is offered about 30 minutes before Masses on Friday and Saturday evening, and Sunday morning.

• Is it hard to see Jesus in the news? Look for Him at Eucharistic Adoration, Thursdays now from noon to 6 p.m.

We thank parishioner and artist Elda Walsh for painting the “action scenes” of our holy patrons, as depicted in Acts, Chapters 5 and 17. Her efforts now occupy the back wall of church, and the previous prints will be displayed somewhere in the parish hall.

• Welcome back to Land of Peace, who are speaking to us before the Masses this weekend about the plight of Christians in the Holy Land and selling items of their creation over in the hall.

• The Rev. Christopher Zelonis will host the Ascension series “Foundations of Faith: A Journey Through the Catechism of the Catholic Church” on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m., beginning on Sept. 24. We will watch and discuss the 30-minute videos, hopefully ending by 8:30 p.m.

• Each month SSPP parishioners make and serve 200 bag lunches for grateful veterans at the American Legion. Lunch includes a sandwich, fruit, chips, cookies and water. We have received donations from the Lehighton FD, the Orioles, various area businesses and anonymous donors. Please help with a donation to SS. Peter and Paul Parish with “Veterans Lunches” in the check memo. We have a standard crew for lunch assembly, but we wouldn’t refuse help in that platoon either.

• Tickets are sold out for the “Neil Diamond Experience” on Sept. 13. No seats will be available at the door.

• On Saturday, Sept. 20, the schoolwide reunion for Saints Peter and Paul School begins with Mass at 4 p.m. and continues with a reception over in the hall. The Rev. Thomas Kuller, S.J., a priest-son of SSPP, will celebrate and preach the Mass.

• The annual Clothing Drive, the proceeds of which go to assist the SSVDP in their charitable work, is extended through September. We accept usable men’s, ladies’ and children’s wear, pairs of shoes (bagged separately from anything else), bags, hats, scarves, towels, blankets, bedsheets, pillows, curtains, toys less than 2 inches, stuffed animals, bikes and strollers (not car seats). Please leave all bagged items on the front porch of the convent, 242 N. Third St., whenever convenient.

• The parish Society of Saint Vincent de Paul operates Vincent’s Closet, which makes available the above items and more, and accepts year-round donations of the same, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call Esther Meier at 570-657-6738.

• “Into the Breach” discusses the confrontations facing men, how to recognize the enemy and fight back to protect our souls and our families. We meet on Saturday mornings in the SSPP Hall at 8 a.m. (first Saturday sessions will begin in church with the regular 8 a.m. Mass). While the Knights of Columbus Damien Council #598 are hosting the program, men need not belong to participate.
