A Nesquehoning man shot himself Monday as law enforcement officers were attempting to arrest him.
Joshua Beury, 44, was pronounced dead after being taken to St. Luke’s Miners campus in Coaldale.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, members of the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office and the Nesquehnoning Police Department were attempting to arrest Buery at a residence on the 300-block of Railroad Street.
After consent to search the residence was granted, law enforcement entered and discovered that Beury was in a locked bathroom.
As officers were entering the bathroom, Beury shot himself with a pistol. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
State police said no shots were fired by any law enforcement member on scene.
The state police’s Troop N Major Case Team is handling the investigation in conjunction with the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and updated information will be released as to not jeopardize the integrity of the investigation.
