3 men charged after climbing pool fence, going for night swim

Three Hazleton men who jumped the fence and swam at Tamaqua’s community pool after the facility had closed for the day were charged with disorderly conduct by Tamaqua police.

According to police, Alber de Jesus Aquino, 18; Jacob Batiste, 18, and Derek Perez, 18, climbed over the fence at 6:35 p.m. Aug. 7 and entered the pool. Police said they were swimming for about 10 minutes before they were found. No lifeguards were on duty.

Tamaqua police charged a borough man with public drunkenness following a 6:20 p.m. Aug. 9 incident.

According to police, officers were sent to the unit block of North Greenwood Street for a fall victim. While there, officers saw Mahoning Ambulance personnel helping James Stintsman, 58, who had fallen and hit his head on a brick wall.

Police said Stintsman had slurred speech and that ambulance personnel could smell alcohol on his breath. He was taken by Tamaqua EMS to St. Luke’s-Miners for treatment of cuts on his head and arm.
