Lansford Borough Council on Tuesday appointed a new president, who will fill the position left vacant by the resignation of Councilman Joseph Genits.
Dwight Penberth, who had served as president prior to the appointment of Genits, was named to lead the council.
Penberth gained the votes needed to take the gavel but not before two other council members were nominated for the post.
Robert Gaughan, who is also a past president, and Margaret Horowski were nominated for the presidency. Horowski was later elected vice president.
In saying he was interested in seeing the borough “moving on,” Penberth asked council members to refrain from speaking on the local Saturday morning talk show “Air Your Opinion.”
