Monroe County commissioners approved hiring an interim grant writer.
The county’s grants manager, Kwanza Smith, turned in her resignation in July.
During the commissioners meeting on Wednesday, the commissioners approved a professional services agreement with April Niver of Niver Consulting and Creative Life to do grant program management from July 21 to Oct. 4. She will be paid $200 per hour for 15 hours per week.
Commissioner Sharon Laverdure said, “That’s happening due to the fact that we lost our grant writer, but April is very experienced in doing that work.”
Laverdure said Niver will work during the transition, filling in until the position is filled, and then staying on to help the new person get familiar with the job.
Commissioner Chairman John Christy said an offer has been made to someone, and he hopes the position will be filled soon.
