PASD hires kindergarten teacher, reading specialist

Palmerton Area School District’s board of directors approved several personnel moves during its meeting Tuesday night.

The board hired Amanda Pacheaco as a kindergarten teacher at Parkside Elementary. She will begin on Aug. 18 and will earn a salary of $54,191 at the Master’s, Step 1 level.

Andrea Miles was appointed as a reading specialist at S.S. Palmer Elementary, also effective Aug. 18. She will be paid $54,691 annually at the Master’s, Step 2 level.

Heather DeReamus was approved as the new facilities and athletics secretary, with a prorated annual salary of $37,321 beginning Aug. 18.

The board also hired Tracy George as a full-time custodian effective Aug. 6 at a prorated annual salary of $32,970.

In addition to the new hires, Tanya Hess was approved for an internal transfer from reading specialist to fifth-grade English language arts teacher, effective Aug. 18.

The board accepted resignations from Kristen Perdew, high school special education teacher, effective July 10; and Shirley Suarez, a food service worker, effective July 28.

Club adviser approvals for 2025-26 included Alex Knoll returning to oversee the National Honor Society at a stipend of $2,079. William Zeky was appointed as STEM adviser.
