Beltzville a popular site, even a question on ‘Jeopardy!’

Beltzville Lake was filled to capacity by 1:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon when the limit of 904 vehicles was reached.

Most of the visitors from out of state were being directed to the Hickory Run state park.

It’s no surprise that it’s a popular site.

Beltzville State Park has a reputation that stretches beyond that of its home base of Franklin and Towamensing townships.

On Jan. 27, the TV game show “Jeopardy!” used the state park in a category named “Lakes of America.”

The clue: “Northwest of Allentown, Beltzville Lake is a popular fishing spot in this mountain range.”

The contestant guessed “Adirondacks.”

The correct answer: The Pocono Mountains.

It was a Daily Double.

Beltzville Dam was completed in 1971 and is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources leases the land occupied by Beltzville State Park.

In 2024, Beltzville saw $600,000 visitors at its day use area and boat launch.

Cody Miller was recently appointed manager of Beltzville State Park.
