July 31, 1967 — Nesquehoning and Summit Hill both record wins on the opening day of the Panther Valley Little League tournament. Nesquehoning breaks a 1-1 tie with Lansford by scoring nine runs in the second inning and ends up winning an 11-1 decision. In the big frame, the Nesquers receive seven hits — one a two-run homer by Tom Yurchak — and two errors. George Semko pitches a four-hitter to gain the win. Meanwhile, Summit Hill posts a 7-6 comeback win over Tamaqua. Joe Bargilione finishes 4-for-4 with three doubles for the winners, while Bill O’Gurek and Bob O’Gurek both end with a pair of hits. The Tams receive a two-run homer from Gerald Susarchick.
