Tamaqua Police are investigating the death of a 39-year-old man who was found at Willing Park on Tuesday afternoon.

The department received reports of an unconscious man at the park near Cedar Street at 4:20 p.m. Officers arrived to find the man slumped over on a bench at the south end of the park’s basketball court.

The person who made the report told police that he had attempted to wake the man but realized he was unresponsive and not breathing.

Police said emergency medical personnel arrived and confirmed that the man was deceased. He was pronounced deceased on site.

According to police, no signs of trauma or foul play were immediately apparent.

The Schuylkill County Coroner was called to the park and an official investigation into the cause of death is currently underway. Out of respect for the victim’s family, police said no further information will be released until his next of kin have been notified.
