Slatington Borough Council reported the estimate for work on the Roosevelt playground is $692,000.
The playground next to the borough hall on Church Street will get new playground equipment and new blacktop.
The price is an estimate; design work has not yet begun.
Changes were made to Slatington’s zoning ordinance since the borough participated in the Northern Lehigh Multi-Municipal Comprehensive Plan.
The ordinance that Slatington now relies on was written as part of that comprehensive plan and does not address many of the finer details that the borough requires as part of its zoning ordinance, such as specific requirements from the previous ordinance pertaining to parking.
Part of the borough council and prior borough manager’s job was to review to ensure the ordinance met the needs of Slatington.
The borough council passed a declaration that will start the process to re-evaluate and possibly rewrite the ordinance so that it makes more sense for borough use.
